Obesity applies to individuals who are more than 20% -25% above the normal body weight.  Our society wants to label obesity as a disease, but obesity is mostly caused by ‘making a choice' to consume more calories than you burn daily.  Obesity has become an epidemic in America for many reasons.  A combination of the lack of exercise, eating lots of foods high in saturated fat & carbohydrates and the manufacturing methods used by the food industry to keep up with the demand of foods and finally, the ingredients used to increase the shelf life of food are the top reasons for the obesity epidemic.  A few other contributors to obesity are:  hormonal imbalances, some pharmaceutical drugs, excessive alcohol & soda consumption, stress and aging.

Obesity is now prevalent in adults as well as children which have contributed to the rise of diabetes in all races.  Excessive fat in the body has the ability to store toxins which in turns causes other organ to become toxic.  This toxicity creates inflammation in the body and eventually will cause ailments to various systems such as the cardiovascular system resulting in atherosclerosis, high blood pressure, ischemic heart disease, stroke and thrombosis just to name a few.  Another system affected by obesity includes the immune system which can cause all types of cancers including:  breast cancer, colon cancer, kidney cancer, liver cancer, lung cancer, ovarian cancer among the most common.  Obesity also put a huge strain on the musculoskeletal system and causes back pain and knee pain due to the extra weight during movement; which in turn discourage a person from exercising. 

The cost of health care is at an all-time high, and obesity is a contributing factor.  The long term drug use required for disease management on high blood pressure patients, diabetics, people with heart problems, arthritis and other degenerative diseases related to obesity have contributed to the cost.  This epidemic is affecting all Americans financially by not only increasing the cost of health care, but increasing taxes for support. 

Obesity can be eradicated by this simple formula:  Calorie Burned > Calories Consumed = Fat Loss.  There are 3500 calories in one pound of human body fat.  What does that really mean?  A good workout program incorporating cardio & resistance training and consuming about 1750 to 2000 calories per day will cause weight loss.  Simply running ten minutes a day burns about 150 calories; while, increasing muscle mass by weight lifting burns more body fat, even while resting. 

In addition to changing your lifestyle by exercising, and eating a clean diet:  supplementation will help accelerate weight loss.  Some known supplements are:  alkaloids which are naturally occurring chemical compounds that increase the Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) such as:  fat burner or thermogenics, caffeine, ephedrine, willow bark, synephrine (also called bitter orange or sour orange that increase metabolism), and yohimbine (increase blood flow and sometimes used for erectile dysfunction).  Amino Acids occur naturally in the body and help to maintain a healthy metabolism.  Each amino acid has their own unique functions, but together they cause chemical reaction required to help recovery after a strenuous workout, they synthesize the protein needed for muscle growth, they help grow & maintain bone density, they help maintain brain tissue and help keep our skin healthy and moist.  A few amino acids are:  Carnitine – causes the body to use the fat stored in adipose tissue (fat cells) for energy production.  Glutamine – helps with muscle maintenance.  5-Hydroxytryptophan – helps to reduce appetites.   Cysteine – also causes the body to use the fat stored in the adipose tissue for energy production.
